Quote: The "moral issues" of the hospital scene really did not work for me: I thought that the "science" behind the fireflies harvesting the infection from Ellie by cutting out her brain is stupid. There simply is no need to remove her brain, a biopsy removing small sections of brain tissue is all that is required for study.
In fact, killing Ellie is really stupid from a scientific sense, as it eliminates the possibility of obtaining future samples. Well, but that is definetily not the reason why Joel saved her But that was obviously not possible, otherwise Marlene and the doctors would have done it Gear3ful wrote: Well, but that is definetily not the reason why Joel saved her Winterlotus90 wrote:.
When Ellie finds a tape from a former Firefly, she finally learns the truth about what happened. This leads Ellie to run away in the middle of the night. When Joel finally catches up to her, she demands to know what happened.
You will never see me again. But what I'm saying is, what if Joel never thought twice about what he was doing? What if he was so scared to lose her and cared for her so much that he wasn't able to trust himself? What would Tommy have done? How would Joel react if Tommy came back without Ellie?
The 'baby girl' scene was really just the point where Joel realized how much he loved and cared for Ellie like a daughter, and because that scene hadn't occurred yet I feel like Joel wouldn't be as angry and distraught as he could be, but still be pretty torn apart.
What are your thoughts? I have a feeling that since Tommy's motives changed became a family man and lost faith in the Fireflies that once he found out that Ellie would have to die, that Tommy wouldn't have wanted to go through with it either. I can't see Tommy being that heartless, especially since he knows how close Joel had become to Ellie. I think Tommy would have fought his way out of the hospital and left with Ellie as Joel had done and gone back to the camp. That or Joel would have had a change of heart shortly after they left and would have gone after them.
Joel may have feared for Ellie's life in his care trying to reach the hospital, but I think his protective, loving parental instinct would have kicked in and he would have still felt that obligation to look after and care for Ellie. I think he would have gone back after her. When Joel said "and we're going on separate ways" to Ellie, we can assure that the sentence impact Ellie a lot, her feeling is mixed between dissappointed, angry, sad, cry and it was all written in her face But no, Ellie threw all of her emotion in her words, she said honest sentence complete with genuine desperation, no arrogancy.
She is genuinely afraid of losing Joel. That's why Joel taking his words back, it was the first and major big step for Joel to become open to Ellie. The primitive cult of Seraphites is among the new factions introduced in Part II. Unlike the Wolves, the Rattles, or any other technology-reliant groups, the Seraphites hate technology and believe that it is the Cordyceps infection's leading cause.
To avoid civilization, the Seraphites live on an island, miles away from the shore of Seattle. Although some could be excluded, they live under the law of nature. Their hatred for technology could drive them to be the first group to repudiate the vaccine, as it wouldn't happen if it wasn't for medical technology.
Like we've previously mentioned above, after losing Sarah in his arms, Joel turned his life degrees from a loving father to a bloodthirsty hunter. With Tommy, the two would loot survivors just for a few supplies and wouldn't hesitate to kill them if necessary.
This walk of life had irritated Tommy so much that he decided to leave his brother to join the Fireflies later on. That means Joel is fine with being a lone wolf. If he gave up Ellie, it would be very likely for him to return to his old life as a hunter.
Joel's vicious and brutal state of mind was shaped as a way of grieving from Sarah's death. At some point before becoming a hunter, Joel had considered ending his own life. Lucky for him, he's still had something to fight for in Tommy, and took to hunting as a way of survival.
