Thread starter Clint Start date Mar 29, I remember being surprised a couple years ago here when someone posted about making their own Mozzarella I've read a few recipes and I'm ready to try it myself, but today for the first time I looked at the grocery store Smith's and had no luck.

Believe it or not, you can get it on Amazon. I'm not sure there is anything you can't get there. Citric Acid is sold with spices. I found rennet at the Good Earth Store in Leonardtown. Challenge is finding unpasturized milk. Let me know if you do. BeenSpur'd I love her wild, wild hair. I know McKay's in Great Mills has rennet, not sure about the acid but they probably do in their canning jar area. Rennet tablets is not the same as liquid rennet, and if you are making cheese you'll want liquid rennet.

New England Cheesemaking Supply sells all kinds of good stuff, that's where I buy my supplies from. What are you making with unpasturized milk? Usually I pasturize the milk to make cheese, although I have friends who don't. The cheese lasts a little longer. Yes I pasturize my own milk. It's just heating the milk to a certain temp and then cooling it, you can do it in a double boiler or a pot, but I have an old pasturizer I use. Anyhow, the harder part of this is finding rennet.

I don't really care if it is vegetable or animal. Does rennet have any other use except in dairy products? Is there a kind of store that would typically carry this? I remember a while ago someone mentioning that an Indian store nearby sold vegetable rennet. Not sure why I'll have to check it out.
